Search Term or Keywords for a Website or Webpage :

A set of words or a phrase which describes the webpage or website's topic in short. When a user searches something in the internet , he/she puts some words in search engines textbox to search that topic. In the result page some websites listing is shown. That means those websites are associated with the keywords which the user typed. It might happen the search term don't exist in the Website or Webpage at all. I shall describe this point later. Though recently Google emphasizes on Search Terms' Existence on the target websites which Google shows in its search results with respect to search terms.

Most of the websites are associated with some search terms. The most relevant search terms for a website or a webpage , are the phrases that people are most likely to type into a search engine when they are searching the web for a particular topic and also the website offers something about that topic. As for example the keywords or search terms for this website is "HIGH SEARCH ENGINE RANKING", "quick SEO Guide", "Tutor on SEO" or "Search engine optimization methods".

How you shall start SEO starting from zero experience ?

Choose some search terms of your choice. Make a Google or YAHOO! search on those search terms. See the top ranking sites for those search terms in Google YAHOO!. Then follow them and incorporate their techniques in your site's web pages. Analyze your competitor websites HOME Page and Other pages - study the top ranked websites got in a GOOGLE or YAHOO! search, made with the same keywords of your website and see how the top ranked websites made their sites. Let us assume in India there are 20,000 Engineering Colleges and each has a website. When someone make a search on "Engineering Colleges of India" all of these 200000 websites are equally qualified to be ranked. Google ,YAHOO! and other search engines so designed, that they display 10 results at a time. But which of the 10 Engineering College websites be displayed in first 10 or 20 or 30.

What Search Engine Crawlers do - Search Engine Indexing :

Bots randomly visits websites. They start visiting websites following the hyperlinks from other websites or website addresses or URLs from there Web Directories. As for example - you can submit your new website to Google by following the URL www.google.com/addurl . Similarly YAHOO has its own site submission zone. Search Engine Crawlers are sometimes called Search Engine Bots or search engine spiders. E.g- Googlebot .

If you launch a new site saw www.abc.com then you can submit your new URL to YAHOO! Google or MSN's web directory. Then after few days of your submission (Its not instant and may take upto 1 month) YAHOO! Google MSN will put your new website URL in their database and later their BOT will visit your site and put every information about your site in their database.

They put webpage or site address, title , meta tags information, text, hyperlinks of every webpage in their database and extract main search terms from every page. They do this for every website. When a website information is stored in Google's directory then its said that site is INDEXED BY GOOGLE. Mind it BOTs follows hyperlinks to visit WebPages.

Later when a search is done by an user they show URL lists from there database w.r.t the search terms. The relevant URLs are returned in an order search engine ranking #1, #2, #3 etc. The URL or the website in 1st place is ranked first and so on. This is called search engine ranking.

When you enter a query in a search engine text box, ( i.e. you type a query, on which you want to search e.g " US president list " in the text box and press the search button ) your input is checked in the database of that search engine, which was previously made by the SPIDER or BOT or CRAWLER of that Search Engine.

• The first step is to choose the most suitable search terms for your site. Make page size smaller because smaller pages are better than larger ones to target a search term when there is less text. Make it up to 50-60 Kilo byte of text material. Don't create huge long webpage.
  
• An major aspect of search engine optimization is search engine spiders must be able to crawl all of the site's pages. That is all the pages of your website will be properly linked. Do not leave any webpage which has no links in it. Search Engines starts crawling a site generally from HOME PAGE and follow the link structure to visit other WebPages.
  
• Add ALT Text in image tags and put keywords of the webpage in IMAGE ALT tags.
• Spiders can't see JavaScript links. So avoid using JavaScript Links. Though modern SEO theory says that now JavaScript links are available by Search Engines.

• Make sure that all pages link to at least one other page. Links to pages that don't link out are called "dangling links", this should avoided.
